Seven Tips for 2017

Jan 03, 2017

Each year, I am a guest on a handful of podcasts. I love the format; it feels like a conversation between friends talking about things that matter most to me, to them, and/or things I am pondering and learning.

My most recent podcast was a great example. It was with a long-time friend, Ken Coleman, who hosts the EntreLeadership podcast on behalf of Ramsey Solutions (the Dave Ramsey team). You might be interested in adding this podcast to your playlist—guests in the past few months have included Seth Godin, Simon Sinek, Lou Holtz, Jim Collins, Suzy Welch, Patrick Lencioni, and many others.

Ken asked me to share about a year-end tradition I’ve been practicing since I was in college—evaluating the year behind and planning for the year ahead. In that spirit they asked me to identify and examine what I thought were the most crucial aims for leaders and organizations steering into 2017. So here are the seven tips that I think warrant your best attention, resources, and repeated review.

  1. Get clear and confident on your Core.
  2. Craft an energetic vision. Then organize for sprints to get there.
  3. Test bravely and pivot often.
  4. Watch your cash and culture.
  5. Feed the lead dog.
  6. Lead and manage yourself.
  7. Don’t be a lone wolf.

I spend a few minutes unpacking each of these seven tips on the podcast, and I think you’ll both enjoy and benefit from it. Curious? Check it out here.

And as always with my stuff, please use it and share it.
